Florence COVID-19 UPDATE

The City of Florence continues to monitor the evolving health concerns in response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and taking proactive measures to help preserve the health and well-being of our community. Following the guidance of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and recommendation for social distancing, the City of Florence has made the following closings and cancellations.

Status of operations at the Florence Government Center
[UPDATED 3/22/20 - 5:00 p.m.]

CITY OFFICES:
The Florence Government Center is CLOSED to in-person business and visitors. The city encourages residents and businesses to contact the city department they need to do business with for further direction:

  • Mayor’s Office/Administration: (859) 647-8177

BOONE COUNTY CLERK (VEHICLE REGISTRATION):
The Boone County Clerk's Office, with a site located at the Florence Government Center, is CLOSED. Please visit their website for additional information of how to do business online: www.booneclerk.com. Until further notice, there is a 90-day grace period for expired vehicle registrations.

BOONE CIRCUIT CLERK (DRIVER'S LICENSE):
The Boone Circuit Clerk driver's licensing offce at the Florence Government Center is CLOSED. Please call the Circuit Clerk's office at 859-448-2900 with questions or for additional information. Until further notice, there is a 90-day grace period for expired driver's licenses.  

OWEN ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE:
The Owen Electric Cooperative office at the Florence Government Center is CLOSED, with the exception of the drive-thru that remains open. Please visit their website for additional information on how to do business online: www.owenelectric.com.

FLORENCE GOVERNMENT CENTER COMMUNITY ROOMS:
The use of the Florence Government Center Community Rooms for all activities or meetings is suspended through at least Sunday, May 3, 2020. Additionally, no new reservations are being taken for the Community Rooms until further notice.

Further changes or updates will be posted to the city's social media channels and this site. 

CANCELED: City Events and Activities
[UPDATED: 3/22/20 - 5:00 p.m.]

The City of Florence announces the cancellation of all city-sponsored events through at least Sunday, May 3, 2020, as follows: 

  • City-appointed boards, commissions, and committees should cancel or postpone meetings. Those with time-sensitive and mandated business should contact the Mayor or City Coordinator for direction.
  • All Citizen’s Academy, Teen Academy, SafeSitter, Easter Egg Hunt, Florence Community Band/Chorus, Great American Clean-Up, and Spring Clean-Up Week events and activities are canceled.
  • The Florence Senior Activity Center, managed by the YMCA, is closed until further notice. The Senior Center staff can be reached at (859) 282-4061 during regular business hours.

CLOSED: City Rental Facilities
[UPDATED: 3/22/20 - 5:00 p.m.]

 The City of Florence announces the suspension of all reservations and rentals at city facilities, including the Florence Government Center Community Rooms, the Nature Park Kalb Gathering House, the Nature Park Event Center, the Florence Senior Activity Center, and all park shelters through at least Sunday, May 3, 2020. In addition, no new reservations are being accepted for any of these facilities until further notice.

Those who have already made rental deposits will be issued a 100% refund. Please contact the Florence Public Services Department at (859) 647-5416 during regular business hours with any questions.

CITY PARKS CLOSED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY 
[UPDATED 3/25/20 - 5:00 p.m.]

The City of Florence took proactive steps to close playgrounds and shelters at all city parks.

Unfortunately, because of large gatherings continuing to occur at city parks, additional steps are now necessary to limit exposure and lessen the potential spreading of COVID-19.

Therefore, effective immediately and until further notice, all City of Florence parks are CLOSED.
