Raintainer
2/2/2010
The City of Florence and Sanitation District No. 1 (SD1) have once again teamed up to bring an exciting new green solution to your home, the “Raintainer”. The Raintainer is a 55-gallon rain water harvesting barrel that has an aesthetically pleasing appearance and includes multiple pre-drilled openings making it possible to draw water from the barrel. The lid of the Raintainer can be used as a self watering planter. Rain water harvesting is important because it decreases the high demand for domestic water in which residential irrigation can account for up to 40% of consumption. By collecting rain water and storing it in a rain barrel, you’ll have non-chlorinated water for future use around the house, not to mention the fact that you will also be helping the environment by storing the water and slowly dispersing it over time rather then letting it run down the storm drain.

Residents who purchase the Raintainer will help their city become “The Greenest City” in Northern Kentucky. The award will be given to the city that purchases the most Raintainers per citizen, based on each individual city’s population. SD1 will be tracking the results for each city and posting them on their website.

The cost of the Raintainer is $124.88 each; all order forms are due to SD 1 by March 31, 2010. If you would like to purchase a Raintainer or would like to know more of the specifics, please click here.
