Are you interested in being a fire fighter for the City of Florence?
Florence Fire/EMS Department is a combination department, meaning the department is made up of career and volunteer fire fighters. All department personnel must be 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, be free from felony conviction and successfully pass a drug screening. Florence Fire/EMS Department accepts applications anytime for open career and volunteer positions.
Career Fire Fighter
Notices of open career positions are posted on this website as well as those for the Kentucky Fire Wire and Kentucky EMS Connection. In addition to the basic requirements above, interested career applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have minimal fire and EMS training. Applicants must hold a Kentucky 150-hour fire fighter certification or an equivalent IFSAC or similar certification. Applicants must hold an EMT-Basic certification. Additionally, interested applicants will need a current (within one year) Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) card. For information regarding CPAT please refer to the CPAT Information Flyer and CPAT Orientation Guide.

Volunteer Fire Fighter
Florence Fire/EMS Department maintains an active volunteer force. In addition to responding to significant incidents this volunteer force spends approximately forty-eight (48) hours per week time staffing a fire engine in one of the department’s fire stations. Applications for volunteer membership are always accepted. Selected applicants will be notified when open positions are available. Prior fire fighting experience is preferred but not required for volunteer applicants. Interested individuals should complete and submit a Fire/EMS Volunteer Application.
