Thank you for visiting us. The Florence Fire/EMS Department was organized as an all volunteer fire department in 1936. Over the last 75 years the department has grown to service the fifth largest concentration of population within the Commonwealth of Kentucky including; the City of Florence, Kentucky and the unincorprated area of Boone County that is serviced by the Florence Fire Protection District. The 2010 United States Census indicated that the population served by our department is now in excess of 45,000 citizens. Our service area is slightly over 21 square miles. Florence Fire/EMS provides a wide variety of services including public fire education, code compliance inspections, fire suppression, heavy rescue and emergency medical services to the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level. These services are provided utilizing a dedicated and professional staff of 50 career firefighters, 28 stipend volunteer firefighters and two civilian personnel. The department operates out of three stations. Florence Fire/EMS answers approximately 6100 EMS and 2500 fire/rescue related calls annually. In 2007 the department was able to improve the ISO rating for the City of Florence proper to a Class 2 which rates the fire protection provided in the top one half of 1% of the entire nation. The area served by the Florence Fire Protection District also greatly improved their ISO rating to Class 3 from its previous Class 9. We hope the information contained within the Fire/EMS section of the City of Florence website will provide you with an insight into our department and its operations, . If for any reason you require additional information or have any questions, please contact Chief Marc Muench. Thanks.
