America Supporting Americans
The City of Florence continues its relationship with B Company of the 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Brigade 502nd Infantry Unit out of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky as our adopted military unit through America Supporting Americans program. The 502nd, or the "Renegades" as they are also known, consist of 134 male soldiers who were deployed to Southern Afghanistan from June 2010 to June 2011. At the conclusion of their deployment in June 2011, the 502nd returned to Fort Campbell.
Most recently, in May 2012 a contingent of 12 members of the unit were redeployed to Eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border on an advisory mission with Afghanistan security forces. These 12 members of the 502nd are expected to be deployed through the end of 2012.
